I have some incredibly autismal rules when doing in-game pokemon playthroughs. No overlapping types (Kanto gets a pass because everything is poison and I like too few other kantomons), must have grass, fire and water types, one being the starter, and no reusing a Pokemon used in an earlier region. Makes things more fun for me. You might notice other patterns.

Literally all I wanted out of LGPE was crossgen evos but they wouldn't even give me that, so fuck it, I'm putting in a Rhyperior for Kanto anyway. Asa comes from Asahi, a beer I really like from Japan and booting up HGSS reminds me of chilling in Osaka (which is IRL Goldenrod City) drinking beer, good times. Since there's no Gen 7 PC sprites I used the swimmer model since his eyes are also covered, I put sunglasses on my Gen 7 MC and he looks hilarious in cutscenes, like he simply doesn't give a fuck.

The last card here are some other favmons that haven't been able to be put on an ingame team, they're on a waitlist hoping for a visa to Galar. It's really hard for me to make a team of favourites because most of them are water types, and my autism won't let me run more than one pokemon of a type unless it's monotype team, which precludes other mons.

Arthur is one of my favourite names and I regret using it on a shit region like Kalos, but it might have been too obvious to use in Galar. Gonna accept suggestions for male names starting with A if anyone wants to help.

I don't always use the 3 type trio. In fact due to the removal of all HMs I actually made it a point in my Ultra Moon playthrough to play without a water type for the first time ever since I didn't need surf anymore. Everything else is true.

It's the focus on the FWG trio though, I don't know why, I sort of have a fixation of it after noticing that the rival's team in Kanto looked really good because significant parts of his team changed to compliment his mons. It sort of started when I realised reusing my favourites over and over was boring as fuck and I tried to figure out some rules to make teambuilding across games more interesting. The end result was this and I'm pretty happy learning to love more pokemon.

For this reason I'm not really affected by the gen 8 culling, but fuck Gamefreak's laziness anyway

It's certainly not interesting, I know.
I don't keep it because it appeals to me on a deep level, but because it fits the team composition and has pulled through for it going back many years.
It gets the job done in a way no other Pokemon in the region probably could.

Slowking is because he is my spirit bro, I identify with him so much, but Delcatty is because I had a cat in real life who I associated with her. My cat was my best friend and dearest companion, so I used Delcatty for everything, but she passed away a while ago. I decided that she would forever be a part of my team. It appears in the Sinnoh regional dex, so it counts.

One of my older rules was using only Pokemon that appeared in a particular gen, but then I realised that I didn't like Camerupt or Torkoal, and all the gen 4 watermons, and it also meant that favourites formerly on the waitlist like Slowking and Crobat would never see the light of day.

And thanks, not that it really matters being ingame teams

Actually had a gen based team around the start of gen 7. Jolteon + Lapras + Ninetales had enough synergy to usually destroy little kids' teams online plus some unexpecting competitive teams, with dragonite being the finisher if the three went down. Gengar and Rhydon(still uncertain on evolving, it uses eviolite) relatively did not see much battle. If I even get Sword Shield, good to know one of my best teams should be safe from the PokeSnap.

For me, both of them miss the mark.
I liked seeing Snorlax; I think Mismagius will fit better than Dusknoir; I'd maybe do Metagross over Aggron, but at least one Steel type.
I assume you're going for Mega-Beedrill? It could be kept, but I'd change one of these Ghost types out.

Yeaaa, honestly my true favorites are hitmonchan and mismagius
The rest kinda get cycled out.
Snorlax will always have a spot on many of my teams but, I felt it was kinda predicable. I only like dusknoir because it's design is pretty cool.

Poor aggron, love him to death but, I can never really use him on many teams. He usually gets SMACKED, no matter what set up i give him.

I had a ton of success with tranny seal, really bulky and heavy hitting from what I've seen, usually run 252 hp and 252 Sp.Atk with an assault vest. Quickly became a regular, I just love beedrill in general, and wish he was a tad bit better.

Hitmonchan is my number 1 though, I've had the same hitmonchan through almost every game.

Keep in mind that this is a favorites team, and not really a comp team, I'm just kinda indecisive when filling the rest of the team out

Mismagius covers Fighting and Ground weakness for Aggron but it helps to have another, and a Water counter.
If we keep in mind Beedrill, then the seal can help out a lot. It can resist Water and Fighting and kill Ground.

That leaves you with one free space of your choosing. I'd pick something that can complement Beedrill and Aggron (and Hitmonchan), whatever that may be. Ninjask with Baton Pass is a possible answer, or something with Trick Room or Tail Wind or Sticky Web.

Yep, usually when I go comp, I try to center focus on hitmonchan and beedrill, because the bug needs some love.
I've been trying ribombee lately, will mixed results. Finding a decent support for the team that also falls into a good "one its own" is something I've been trying to figure out.
Sticky web is ALWAYS a go to.

I've been mulling it over heavily and I've got some ideas, but really, I'd say it depends on many factors.
For example, if this is a Gen III team or else how far into the ones past that you're willing to go, because the threats changed. Gen VI made Steel types almost mandatory. Even so, Metagross was a popular choice for Hoenn teams.
But if you pick Metagross to this team, you'd be picking up more weaknesses than strengths, I think. Your team is certainly not bothered by Rock; Fighting isn't a huge issue; Steel even less so.

Personally, I might go for a Pokemon like Electivire which has access to Cross Chop, Thunder Punch, Fire Punch, and Earthquake for quite the nice type coverage. Bulky Normal types, Skarmory, Forretress, and Ferrothorn are huge threats, along with new ones like Toxapex. Electivire can beat them all. Even Electabuzz in Gen III is better than nothing.
For the last slot, to help supplement it, I'd do Gengar or Froslass with Psychic, or Weavile. 2 are good Fighting counters, 1 is a good Fairy counter, and 2 are good Garchomp counters.

You are correct however: the choice is perplexing.

My method is favorites first, and then flesh out the rest of the team with a solid build. The others will just have to grow on you.
You don't want to build a team that can't win battles if you care about competing, after all.
Other people are just content to think about adventuring and day-to-day life practicalities without regard to battling, which is fine too.
