Grass starter ideas. Simply rate each over 10 and let me know why you like or don't like them. Again, sorry for my bad handwriting.

Anteater shouldn't be Grass/Fairy, but other than that, good designs (if somewhat nu-Pokemonish)

The tapir is nice but the eyes are a bit aggressive for a first stage. The anteater has bulbsaur's colours.

I wanted to go for an early gen look so I used Ivysaurs' colours. I should change it to light green maybe.

7/10 could use a bit more green and grassy looking parts but overall works

4/10 it doesn't come of as much of an anteater to me
if it's meant to have some kind of banana motif then I don't know why it's blue and not yellowish
a grass starter being primarily blue, the color of water starters, is just confusing

The designs look too busy for a base form.
Starter Pokemon are like the mascots of their home region so you want something that little kids can draw easily.

About the anteater, even though it's a banana I didn't want it to be too obvious at first so I just gave it a banana shape and leaf. Also the tapir is kinda yellow and I wanted them to be completely different from each other. My plan was to change its colours as it evolved but I scrapped them. It also has the same colours as Ivysaur.

I think it's important for them to have the focal point be the color that you would associate with the type, at least in the first stage. Even Bulbasaur has actually been depicted as much more green than Ivysaur in the context of the games

The tapir is alright as a design despite not conveying the idea of a tapir that well. The anteater doesn't appear as one at all. The cutesy eyes and lack of a snout leaves it too ambiguous. I'd also like to know why you want to go with a banana shape and the typing. Both wouldn't be good for starters. Ivy's palette works because it's amphibian/reptilian. Here it just comes off as tacked on. Other ones like Chespin or Rowlett that use a varied palette are in line with their dual type, not that it has to be pink.

I'd say start with maybe the mid or final and work in reverse so you have an easier time subtracting and adding. That might help. Also try to join a discord with designers so you get better feedback.

Honestly, I don't think that the banana anteater motif really works well; it just doesn't really resemble one. If anything, it reminds me of a parasaurolophus . They're not bad, though; I think you have potential

My advice would be to make the final form first. Unleash your full creativity with no boundaries into the final form. And then work your way down into its pre stages. They don’t look like a tapir or ant eater at all. However, i like these mons. The artwork/ coloring is clean and they remind me of pokemon
