It is expected that many old pokemon will be usable in DDLP, and Gamefreak are using the remakes as a chance to let veteran gamers "spend some time" with their old favourites in a Switch gaming experience.
They expect to eventually remake other games, but hope that making most of Gens 1-4 catchable in DDLP will calm the fears/anger of people at the moment.
