Genwunners crushed a GF in gen 5.
Since 3 they were going up and up in quality and reached their peak in 5, they even cared about people's responses until genwunners absolutely destroyed gen 5 just because they couldn't play with their favourites until the postgame.

After that GF just gave everyone the finger and put out shit.

GF culled most of the spinoffs and shifted to an almost yearly release schedule while development demands both increased and made it harder to disguise anti-patterns that had become deeply ingrained.

In the 3DS gen, they should have been sandbagging releases like crazy to try and buy time to iron out kinks, but that obviously didn’t happen.

Played since RB, BW was the last time the core game objectively improved, since then it's been generational gimmicks to cover-up the fact that they have no idea how they can do anything productive without pissing off genwunners. There's no fucking reason why the few megas that are actually good couldn't have been additional evolutions. I would bet anything that 0 kanto pokemon will ever be cut.

SM has worse distribution and sold more because of brand recognition. BW2 had better distribution and still sold less than BW. If we're talking about popularity, especially among casuals, it's not about actually anything to do with inherent properties of the games or "distribution", it's brand recognition, hence the example.
