I've been complaining since about Gen 5 that the franchise doesn't need to focus on adding new Pokemon so much as maximize opportunities for what can be done with the extant set of what was at the time 493 Pokemon
The Gen 5 dex was completely superfluous and had only a handful of interesting new designs. They clearly phoned in the starters
Gen 6 was IMO a concession to my opinion because there was more focus on Mega Evolutions than new Pokemon, but that went over poorly with everyone
Gen 7 went back to new Pokemon, but also the Alolan Formes thing. Unfortunately it just came across as Kanto pandering.. which admittedly in some ways it was
But there was no sustainable way to carry on with the legacy bloat of maintaining locations for Deoxys forme meteors, location based evolutions, all the move tutors, Mega Stones, Arceus plates, Silvally drives, etc. while now adding on new Pokemon with their own locations
There was a frenetic demand from fans to keep adding Pokemon without recognising the extant legacy bloat that would have to be maintained, and there was no clear reason why you were so insistent on getting that Pokedex ever-closer to the magic number of 1000
Colosseum is one of my favorite games. Zero new Pokemon. Gen 2 is my favorite generation overall. There were new Pokemon added, but as more an adjunct to Gen 1 than a 'replacement' in its own right. You guys moan and bitch about the limited availability of the new Gen 2 Pokemon, almost deliberately ignoring that the majority of the Gen 1 dex is available and clearly the 'core' of the dex, not some sort of 'bonus' or whatever
Did we really need 1000 Pokemon? Will we ever need that fucking many?
I'd guess this is the Gen we hit #1000, or else deliberately just short of it so the first Gen 9 Pokemon can be the magic #10000
GameFreak is incompetent as fuck, this shouldn't have been a surprise to any of you, but you kept demanding as many new Pokemon possible
Well, you got em. Was it worth it?
