Besides Prism actually be good, that's all more of the same, they don't do anything new except some really awful/edgy writing and making me have to use more potions/x-items then normal.

That's sort of the problem with being a Pokemon fan now, people have a lot of opinions since I think gen 6 cut a lot of the fat and was a more pleasurable experience. All we can do is share opinions, but I know fan-games are very rarely "high quality". Prism is a rarity in that it's really good but Pokemon, for me, peaked with HG/SS with Gen 5 being a bloated mess and X/Y cutting to much content. I just think you're fooling yourself if you think any of the romhacks above are "of quality" except Prism.

No idea, when I hated Pokemon during gen 5, I simply stopped playing and moved on to new JRPG's. Nobody seems willing to take this route, but this whole revolt with ShSw seems to be a lot of people unwilling to give up Pokemon.

That seems to be your problem, I don't consider being a fan "an investment". I hated gen 5, so I stopped playing but not playing doesn't invalidate the fun I did have with gen 1-4. I always thought it's fine to stop liking something cause there's always new things in the future. If you simply hate the direction Pokemon is going, not playing it isn't going to make the past a waste of time if you have fun, fun doesn't magically get erased from your past.

Sonic Robo Blast used to be the best a Sonic fangame could be at some point. Not Sonic Robo Blast 2, I'm talking about the original. Go take a look. If the series is popular enough and the games aren't satisfying, fans will spend they're time working on them and become better and better. Just the fact that Showdown exists is amazing. "There's monsters, and there's this sport 99% of people worldwide are constantly obsessed with, and you want to become the best, catch all the monsters and stop an evil organization from destroying the planet for some unclear reason". It has more going on and it makes more sense, sure, but I wouldn't say it's well executed. The game actually gives me the best example to showcase one of the biggest problems with the worldbuilding of the entire series:

As much as I like the story, I'd agree it would be better without Lillie. What I liked more was the the UB's themselves, big reason I like USUM more cause it really kicks Lillie/Lusamine to the side to world build the UB's a lot more. I also don't think it's wrong to go with the idea that Lillie couldn't have a counter argument cause Lusamine is actually right, just her methods are wrong.

I haven't played USUM, so I don't know what they did there, but I do like the UltraBeasts and the concept behind them. If we look outside Game Freak's games we can see the Pokémon themselves tend to have well defined personality or stories. Perhaps the key to writing a good Pokémon story is to use the Pokémon themselves to their full potential.

Insurgence has all Pokémon up to gen 6 + some fanmade megaevolutions and forms. It also has a needlessly edgy story about satanistic cults or something, but I think they introduced the option to disable it. Story aside, it looked pretty cool to me.
I'm not very familiar with Reborn, I just know that it has all Pokémon up to USUM, but it's full of nonsensical LGBTQ+ pandering.
If you want to replay FireRed or play Emerald/Platinum (soon)/BW, then PokéMMO is the best way to do so, if you like multiplayer and having gen 5 Pokémon in gen 3 and soon 4.

It's a giant shitpost, but actually has better difficulty and soundtrack than the original FRLG, and gen 6 mechanics, and more obtainable Pokémon, and some genuinely good gags (eg Brock on the asteroid light years away, Big Bill Hell's bike shop, that kid in the Beehive PMC who says the Champion is "your mom" and isn't lying).
