I EV train and grind my favorites once I get a brace or some anklets because I have severe autism
sometimes I actually breed for decentish IVs but even I'm not autistic enough to try for perfect, especially in hacks which is what I most commonly play these days

Minmaxing is the way to go nowadays. Shitty jack-of-all-trade mons introduced mostly in Gen 1-3 should be changed into being more focused in terms of stats and abilities

Always EV train if nothing else. Will use sub-optimal pokemon if they're shiny like my Impish Rayquaza. Don't breed anymore since my PC box is nearly full to bursting.

It depends, I spend different amounts of effort on different mons, I've spent a lot of time on a Misdreavus recently though I don't spend the whole day riding my bike or anything just grind for an hour or two every now and again while I'm watching something or whatever

This is the best way to go about it. It's fun getting through the story with shitmons, but when it comes time to actually compete I play to win.
