They aren't a fucking indie studio. If they don't have enough staff, hire more. Because this is a mainline Pokemon game they're making, and Pokemon is THE HIGHEST GROSSING VIDEO GAME FRANCHISE OF ALL TIME. It's 60 fucking billion dollars ahead of Mario. Masuda has no fucking right to use time and budget constraints as an excuse. He's just minimizing efforts to maximize profits, like he did with Let's Go, because dumb shits will still buy these games. People need to keep complaining and get this piece of shit fired so the series is put back into the hands of someone with actual creative investment in it.

The only appreciable difference is the lighting engine. The model is definitely the same, look at the way 3ds pikachu's right arm seems to clip right near his chin/neck. Exactly the same thing is present in switch pikachu

Textures aren't the same tho, they are probably using the RAWs that were scaled down for the 3DS games, otherwise pokemon with lots of detail would look like shit like they do on Citra. But models are definitely the same, maybe some got tweaked like it happened from XY to SM, but that's it.

Why would anyone need to rip the game? There's old interviews from the time of X & Y, where the development of the Pokemon models is talked about, and how Creatures Inc made them, as well as the animations and the whole process behind it. It's quite clear that they were intended to be used for future titles as well, and they were. Sun and Moon used the exact same models/animations, and based on all the trailers so far, it's quite obvious that they're still using the same models/animations. The only potential differences are textures, shaders and lighting.

It would be incredibly easy to do. Literally just importing the model files that they already have into the assets of the game. Same with the animations (assuming they don't have to do any conversions, but even so, it would be pretty straight forward.). As far as shaders, they're extremely easy to make, and potentially each pokemon could use the exact same shader. And the textures, which they may have changed, would be incredibly easy to make, since they'd already have the base file, and any decent texture artist would be able to go through potentially a hundred of these textures a day easy. Doing all 800 Pokemon would take a week at the most.

That was the same model they just moved things around a bit. A model is made of a wireframe and a texture. The wireframe can be manipulated, moved around and adjusted and a new texture can be attached to that wireframe at any time.

Sword and Shield are using the same wireframes, with new textures. So technically they are new models in that the texture has changed, but the wireframe is still the same. It has the same proportions, the same skeleton rig, it's using the same poses and idle animations from XY and SM. These models have existed since Pokedex 3D and they were explicitly made so that they could continue to use them for decades to come.

Even if they did, hiring more people doesn't necessarily mean more productivity. With more people you need more infrastructure to communicate, and unless you can actually put them to good use in the long term, you're going to waste a ton of resources with near to no gain in productivity.

Luigi's mansion got shit for dark moon being mission based, animal crossing was gone for like a decade only having an amiibo spin off and a beta for outdoor furniture in happy home designer.
it's also how often the series gets pumped out. pokemon being annual to keep the franchise consistent in terms of pace for the anime will bite it in the ass one day. they won't be able to keep up and then once hardware gets to complex everything will deteriorate from there. not this gen, one of these days hardware will get too complex to make a game per year.

I believe the stroke, highlights and shadows could all be determined by shaders on well made models, but that's asking a lot of gamefreak. I wouldn't be surprised if they did remake everything to look very slightly different.

Pokkén Blastoise is as far away from the original 2D drawings as you can get. And it's legs are ugly as fuck.

XY Blastoise is close to the original drawings, but it looks awful because it was never meant to be 3D.

besides what everyone said, most pokemon are symetrical and you can mirror while doing the texture in Maya or other software, then you can add the missing details
And pokemon textures are for the most part flat which you can cheat with filling

How hard is it to redo the textures for all the models? For the most part it’s the same bitmap, just enlarged and redrawn in HD.
Given they did 720+ models with textures for gen 6 they should be able to do 900+ textures in a fraction of the time.
