I don't think people do. Most people probably realize who said what. That being said 'please understand' has better meme value than Masuda's famous 'making a game is hard' and 'I hope people don't get their hopes up too much', and it was already a meme before Masuda dropped those precious lines.

to be fair, when iwata said "please understand," it wasn't followed by whining about how hard it is to make games and begging people to lower their expectations. it was followed by explanations of why nintendo did certain things.

Wasn't it in response to delays in ORAS? Delaying a game to release a finished product is pretty reasonable, also wasn't really Iwata's fault either.
