You're completely wrong though. Gamefreak are the ones to blame because of their incompetent developers not being able to port spreadsheets and models from USUM while prioritizing the marginal updates to old Pokemon that need to be done in SS since there's obviously no quality jump, TPC is the second in queue for synchronizing release of all the merch, anime and other bullshit in spite of the games obviously not being ready for that.

When it came to replacing the DS, they cheaped out (they had bought a job lot of chipsets they were too tight to take the hit on and scrap, so used them for the 3DS). Had they gone with something more powerful than that, we may actually be in a situation where Game Freak are comfortable developing games for Switch. Gen 6 did nothing wrong from the game system standpoint. It upgraded the overworld to full modeled 3D and made battles 3D as well, giving Pokemon more than one animation each.
Now Gen 7 is where Game Freak's incompetence truly started shining through, which now blasts with the power of three suns in the eyes of everyone in gen 8. They've obviously hit the point of diminishing returns and their staff literally can't do any better. Even if you gave those motherfuckers a supercomputer, they'd still do the same shit as Sun/Moon, except in 4k and 30fps.

Game shat itself with horde battles, because the HW was too weak to display 6 models on-field without dropping frames or lagging. Gen VII had to force-boot EVERY OG 3DS that tried to run it into a safe mode to be able to run the games. Funnily enough, both these problems wouldn't have existed, had Nintendo gone for something more powerful on the inside, instead of cheaping out like they did. Now consider, had Game Freak gotten something akin to the Wii (or in between Wii and WiiU in grunt instead of what they did get), I guarantee the Switch games launching would be the tits, as they'd have gotten over the "learning how to work in HD environments" bit they're going through currently in time to make use of what they learned.

BZZT WRONG.
One, it lagged depending on the pokemon and attacks used.
Two, the reason it was on a case by case basis was because they used HD models with an absurd polygon count.
Three, many different games could handle six models or more on screen without dropping frames monster hunter being one of the big examples because a full lobby and two monsters on screen plus smaller monsters wouldn't tank it.

Any way you spin it this was down to GF's incompetence.
