>>39024634>What makes this the straw that broke the camel's back?Because, as much as it makes people seethe for me to say, a lot of the things they've removed in the past just didn't matter a whole lot to me. Sure, it does suck to lose out on good mechanics and features, I'm not gonna pretend it's a good thing to lose them, but they almost always made it up in some way. Every new game always had something special in it that sold me. And I'm not just talking about gimmicks like Megas, I'm more talking about the little things. For instance, we lost the PSS in Gen 7, which sucked. But I didn't mind so much because everything else Gen 7 added, I liked even better. I loved Poké Pelago for the little fun stuff it added, and I loved the game's overall tone and atmosphere, it was all just fun. I even liked the Rotom Dex in USM, because the Roto powers were basically just O Powers but without the complicated bullshit. I know people hated the cutscenes, but I'm just the kind of person who doesn't mind that sort of thing. It's not really about brand loyalty, because I just liked the games for what they were.
So, the reason that this is such a big deal suddenly? It's because it's a much more integral part of the game's core. It may be hypothetically possible, but in most peoples' eyes, you can't exactly "make up for it" in this case. You can't quite make up for the fact that one of the series' biggest selling points has been shaved off. You can't make up for the fact that you're locking a bunch of people out in this big of a way. You can make up for Contests not being in every single game, but you can't make up for this.
