XY prebank. This board was great back then, maximum comfy. XY themselves were liquid dogshit but breeding and trading and battling with you guys right on the heels of a very fun leak season are the last truly fond memories I have of this series. It was all downhill from there.

Black 2. XY didn't impress and even though I couldn't figure out why, I could feel the lack of SOUL. Then SuMo came out and just bored me to tears despite the fun new 'mon designs. Didn't buy USUM and just let it rest, but now I plan to look into fun fangames and emulators just to spite the big N.

Oras. To me, they’re the last enjoyable games, with soaring, and so many Pokémon available. Would have been masterpieces better than emerald, platinum and b2w2 if they had battle frontier. They’re close at least. Maybe a storyline to explain the hoopa holes too honestly. Damn close to being perfect games

Challenge mode spoiled me and then Y went and had Elite 4 members with half a fucking team. Moon was a slog to get through and I didn't play a single minute after I finished the dex.

Black and White. It was kind of invigorating to have a place designed after your home city, along with the subtle philosophy dotted in NPCs and stories.

B2W2 I was only excited about because of the completionist-pandering Medals. God I miss those. All of those. That and Join Avenue being a lot more customizable than Gen 7's.

B2/W2 are one of those amazing little surprises in my life that ill never quite understand. I havnt truly enjoyed a pokemon game that wasnt a remake since Platinum, and really really disliked W/B when they came out as i identified it as a shift to character focus instead of open world immersion. But ill be damned if B2 didnt sit me right back on my ass and suck me into its world. The first time I found a hidden grotto I just about felt like a kid again.

That was a fun grind. The pure ecstasy of getting a maxed out trainer card can't be understated. Look at the piss poor 'achievements' needed to get a maxed out (4th tier now instead of 6th) card.

X&Y up to the 3rd gym was fucking Kino. Then you can tell development schedules caught up to them and Game Freak half-assed the entire rest of the game.
I had fun my first playthrough of Sun but I have no desire to ever go back and replay it which I think is terrible for a Pokemon game to make me think.
