Why would you think the Dynamax and non-Dynamax models are separate based on the Steelix popping in like it did? It was already Dynamaxed before Arcanine transformed, so it's not a case of the normal Steelix model vanishing and taking a moment to reappear in its Dynamax form. It's far more likely that the game had to hide Steelix and his surrounding clouds when it played the Arcanine dynamax cutscene, then lagged while making the models reappear.

I'm pretty sure totem Pokemon don't have their own models. The closest thing they have to a "dex slot" is the game classifying them as an alternate form of their base model. (Araquanid being 752-0 and Totem Araquanid being 752-1, IIRC)

I recall one of the dataminers confirming they were different models. It's not a huge deal though since there's only a handful of them. Like copying models for cutscenes, it seems like a decision rather than incompetence.

Dataminers do make mistakes. Kurt recently had to clarify that SciresM's claim that the game encrypts and decrypts every Pokemon 100 times whenever it has to load one in was a mistake on his part.
