Honestly, my dad's been a bully regarding pokemon my whole life, but also he bought me booster packs every weekend and i'm still thankful for it
It's just that little special something he'd do for me as a 6year old you know.

That said i think he pointed out this pidgeot card once.

My dad died two years and 3 months ago, and while he didn't really like a whole lot of video games (his favorite game was Destroy All Humans 2, and he just watched me play), he really liked Poliwhirl for some reason. It sucks not having a dad, I needed a lot of help in the past 4 years but he needed more when he was alive because of ALS.

Well, my dad probably doesn't know what a Pokeyman is, but all of his friends used to call him "Dan the duck man" and when I was a kid I would always name my Farfetch'd "Dan" after him.

His favorite is Dragonite, his knowledge extends to mostly gen 1 but he branches out to 2 and 3, and last year with X and Y/Sun and Moon
He believes that the gen 1 pandering that happens a lot these days is a sensible move even if it’s annoying, since the originals are almost instantly recognizable

Entei. It’s the only Pokémon he can remember besides Charizard and Pikachu oddly enough. Whenever he teases me that he can beat me in a Pokémon “fight” he says he would just use entei. It always reminds me of when we saw the third pokemon movie together when I was 8

Small story

One time my parents were driving us to a car show in the city, and while we were in traffic, they hassled me about how I'm always playing my Game Boy. My dad took it from me in the middle of a battle to see what I was doing and used Venusaur's sleep powder, to no avail, then handed it back to me. This is the only time I can ever recall him willingly interacting with a video game.

So Venusaur, I guess.
