>>39029504>1 - Good monstersNow this might sound simple, but it has a lot of factors behind it; like the general style, theme and mood you are going for with them, consistency in design, practicality of the said mons both to the world and gameplay mechanically speaking. But in general i would say, if your mon collecting games has good mons, it has made the first step.
>2 - Simple yet deep battle systemWhen i say simple, i mean something that is easy for newcomers and casuals to interact. Pkmn has 4 option, with attack being 4 moves, so it looks lacking, but those who want to look deeper find all of these small sub systems that change the game. So something that is engaging for casuals (type advantages/disavantages) while still having meat for the fanatics (STAB, priority, abilities, ivs, evs, etc...)
>3 - interesting world that engages with the game main themeIn pkmn, EVERYTHING is pkmn. You dont need to go that far, but the monsters must be important to the narrative of the world and what you are doing doesnt just feel like a side activity for a larger world, but rather something also important
I think these 3 are a good start about what makes pokemon stand out among the crowd of monster collecting games, there is more but im sure other people will point it out.
