Pokemon is a Nintendo exclusive, it's a system seller. It would be in there best interest to fix this. Nintendo also owns 1/3 of Pokemon.

nintendo themselves have largely mailed it in with full-price wii u ports and smartphone "games" rather than supporting the switch with more new games.

it happened with madden and ea didn't even have to lose the license back then. when sega put out a significantly better product one year (nfl 2k5), madden sales plummeted. ea ended up buying the exclusive rights to the nfl the following year so it could never happen again.
pokemon fans are legitimately bigger drones than ea sports fans. most of them will never try another monster-collecting game like madden fans did with nfl 2k5, no matter how bad pokemon gets.

Madden 05 sold better. Sales didn't even plummet either Madden 05 sold better than every game before it. EA just didn't want competition. Say what you want about Pokemon but Gamefreak never fucked over any of it's competition. EA even tried to get arcade-style non-licensed Football games shut down back in the day.

As anons have pointed out, GF do not care about this. However, Nintendo do, as seen with Mario Maker 2. If they sorted playing online with friends in goddamn Mario Maker, they're more than likely to pull rank of GF as publisher. Plus, the vitriol within the community because of the cut for SS is way worse than the reaction was for Mario Maker 2. The shills are actually in the minority this time around and we have never seen such outrage within the wider community over a main series game. At the very least, they will address the issue, Masuda is finally having to wat his own shit and that's hilarious to me.
