When did you take the final redpill and realize trainers eat pokemon? Hell they probably butcher their mons when they fail to perform well in battles, these are asians we're talking about after all

The whole bullshit about eating pokemon (be it by humans or by fellow pokemon) feels like some out-of-place edgy crap as you never see it in the games and the supposed "predators" can be put in the same team as their "prey" and even breed with them.
I'd rather they kept real life's dumb animals as canonically existing to serve as preys for pokemon who would be superior entities who don't eat each others.
That's kinda what they did in the early anime btw

Several Pokedex entries reference real animals. So it's not just the anime where real animals existed just weren't in the spotlight.
Considering Pokemon are portrayed as intelligent creatures, you sure as hell couldn't farm and eat them unless we were holding them in some concentration camp like situation.
Also Pokemon is a utopia. You have free instant healing for your creatures and you can't believe there's not lab grown meat?

Normal animals are the main food source of humans and pokemon, although pokemon will sometimes still prey on each other anyway. They're wild creatures and will generally eat whatever looks appetizing.
Humans sometimes also eat pokemon, but usually it's an act of desperation. In many places eating pokemon is taboo if not outright illegal.

I'm playing through Ultra Moon right now for the first time, and I didn't notice that there was a fucking SUSHI BAR in the middle of Malie City. Like what the fuck are they even eating?

The NPCs in the restaurant don't even say anything about their food either.
