When they said they cut pokemon for "balance" maybe it wasn't a lie. I used to agree that GF never gave a shit about balance but then I remembered they tried to buff several shitmons in SM. I'm not saying I agree with the culling but maybe they do care about balance.

I agree, I think the speed stat fucks this game up. It's by far the best stat in the game. The only thing that can top it is poorly distributed priority moves. But if priority moves were running rampant then the game would still be fucked in a new way

True true I can't argue with that. But weather abilities aren't the only abilities that are good. If Game Freak really wants to balance this game, they need to start giving mons actually usable abilities ALONG with the bst boost. Look at espeon for example, in DP it was shit and then it got magic bounce the very next gen and became OU. Culling pokemon isn't the answer. If they truly want a balanced game they need to sit down and give each pokemon a usable ability along with the bst boost.
But they're not off to a good start by giving that corgi pokemon a shitty pokeball pickup ability.

That said I don't think all power creep is necessarily bad especially if it's from older mons getting buffed. Just so long as new legends and old OU staples aren't also getting buffed as well

The idea of Magic Bounce being such a catch-all Ability in terms of what it deflects is why I call it powercreep. Espeon is one of the most exploited mons because of Stored Power, Morning Sun, and Calm Mind in conjunction with Magic Bounce.

To make things clear, they didn't give it something that stopped Burn like Water Veil, Poison like Immunity, Taunt like Oblivious, Paralysis like Limber, or even some Ability that stopped hazards, they gave it an Ability that covers ALL of that. That's powercreep plain as day.

I agree with you i think it's definitely a form of power creep (there are so many mons that would break competitive mons completely if they had magic bounce. It's only ok because it's on a shitmon like espeon and even then baton pass had to be banned.)
I just don't think all power creep is necessarily bad. I mean shit like choice band and choice scarf could even be a form of power creep but i'm glad they exist.

I think the big issue is that Game Freak is terrible at balancing and that's why i actually kind of believe them when they say they don't want to include mons because of balance.
For instance I genuinely believe they wanted to make Pelipper and Politoed equal in terms of balance where one would have better stats, more support moves, and no x4 weakness while the other has u turn, roost, defog, and more powerful stab. But i think they just severely underestimated how much better pelipper would be overall.

I could totally see them saying "fuck it lets just hold all these pokemon back and actually try to balance these games for once cause we can't do this shit properly otherwise."

What I appreciate is Abilities like Chesnaught's Bulletproof. That Ability with Chesnaught's bulk helps it create a niche without going overboard. For example, Chesnaught basically comes in on Ferrothorn for free because it's immune to Leech Seed and Gyro Ball. I wish Gengar didn't get Sludge Wave because then Chesnaught would be a nice out to Gengar too to an extent. I'd rather Gengar be pressured run Dazzling Gleam than having Sludge Wave invalidate Bulletproof.

Anyway, I think for Espeon they should've just widened its movepool. It already had one of the best stat allocations of the Eeveelutions, being Speed and an Offense like Jolteon had.

I think another part of the reason Pelipper is so good is it counters Mega Swampert's STABs too. Mega Swampert has to run Stone Edge just to hurt it, which is tough when the alternatives are Superpower, Ice Punch, Stealth Rock, and a backup Rain Dance.

Balancing hundreds of pokemon the Galar Dex is extremely optimistic.

OP here, maybe they could fiddle with the type chart? I personally think water is the best type in the game. Not only does every water type have access to ice beam which nullifies one of their threats, but water is a great defensive typing overall. Monotypes are usually bad but you cannot go wrong with mono-water.
Me personally? I'd like to see poison be super effective against water because it makes sense and it'll make poison types more prominent in the metagame. Also make one or two more types resistant to water.

What would you do to balance this shit show?

I don't know exactly what i'd do but i think taking a look at the type chart is a good start.
Certain types (water, fairy, steel) are just fucking amazing meanwhile ice has never been good ever.
Actually what i think would be a great change but i can't see them doing is making it so only ice types and a select few water types learn ice beam. One of the biggest reasons ice is so shit is because literally everything and my mom's dog learns ice beam.

Gamefreak cares about balance superficially because their comp knowledge is superficial. They genuinely don't give a shit because it isn't their focus.
These are the people who thought a Pokemon with 150 base Spatk wouldn't use special moves, these are the people who made Mega Gengar and Mega Salamence
Asking them to balance the game is the same as asking your mom to balance the game since both are more or less as invested into Pokemon's competitive metagame as each other.
The fact that Tyranitar, Gyarados, Togekiss, Clefable and Gengar are around at the same time as garbage like Wailor and Vespiquen shows how detached they are.

Mega mom's nerf actually took it out of VGC's most played list, the problem in singles is the Seismic Toss set which is just another oversight by Gamefreak. Talonflame did need those nerfs, sure, it wasn't an unstoppable force and you could counter it, but its sole existence denied entire types the possibility of sweeping and also took a massive shit on any strategy relying on speed.

Talonflame was only a problem if you played Monotype, I agree. The same way Medicham and Scizor have been since the start, but ain't nobody bitching about them. Outside of that most teams could handle it with a Pokemon that had a semblance of a defense stat and the ability to hit a Fire/Flying type.

As for Mega Mom it still broke sashes and sturdy, it still did damage past subs, double stat-upped PuP, and had pseudo-serene grace for whatever moves it ran. The damage barely effects how broken it is outside of Doubles, where offensive strategies tend to be what people run.

Vespiquen is dog shit, and always will be. Balancing a meta where TTar and Vespiquen are equals would require Vespiquen to be an entirely new Pokemon.

I think what they should've done with it was change it to pure Dragon again, give it Levitate, and have it sort of resemble a spaceship reminiscent of Shelgon, with high Speed, high defenses, and lowered Atk and SpA.
Mega Gengar is fine but just nerf Shadow Tag somehow, like say it only traps Pokemon at a certain HP range.

Not really, it was a problem that it could outspeed a Gyarados with 6 Dragon Dances and kill it. Medicham and Scizor's priority is nowhere near as strong as Talonflame's.

Anyways, so basically I had this idea that some abilities would only work a few times and some would only work if you chose to activate it. Basically with abilities like static, you only have 2-3 "statics" right, and you would have to predict that your opponent would hit you with a physical move at the same time you activate your static. If you guess wrong you lose a static but if you guess right you get a paralyzed pokemon. This completely eliminates all the luck from dumbass abilities like static and flame body.

I was also thinking that abilities like shadow tag and arena trap would only allow you to trap something once and then you can't do it anymore.

Some abilities can stay the same like water absorb, but I feel like this change would add a bit more skill to the game. And yes I know Game Freak would neither think of this nor implement it.

I don't agree with the trapping Abilities though because once is enough. Some trappers are only run for 1 mon that gets in the way of another mon's sweep.
