I’d honestly just drive around looking for local game shops or thrift stores, that’s probably your best bet.

You can get it risk free from eBay, it’ll cost you an arm and a leg generally though. Craigslist is both riskier and more unlikely, but you could potentially get it for dirt cheap.

Most privately owned stores will let you check if you explain the circumstances and have 2 DSs to check
Otherwise everything I've gotten from GameStop has been legitimate but I did need to point out some fakes for them.

I found HG/SS for about $25 each at game stop. they had multiple copies and let me inspect them to make sure they weren't bootlegs.
