>>39059689>But it is a story. You may not like the story, you might think it's a bad story, but it's a storyGen 1 and 2 have about as much of a story as super mario bros. It's not necessarily a good or bad thing, but there's really nothing there.
>And there is new content. Its Johto. Whether or not you like that Johto has a lot of Kanto pokemon, or that its gym leaders use Kanto pokemon, does not mean it is not Johto with 8 new gym leader types, 100 new pokemon, and new areas completely independent from Kanto. The problem is that it has no fucking identity. Johto SORT of does this with the oriental theme but there's like 2 areas where it's used(the sprout tower) but the rest of the games areas are generic. Whenever a gen 2 game is mentioned I think of Kanto. Besides gen 1 I don't do this for any other gen, despite their issues.
99% of the time, there is kanto involved. If I recall correctly, I don't think there is a single area in the game that contains more than 2 johto pokemon to catch, if that. While there are like 10 kanto pokemon to catch no matter where you are.
If I'm playing the game casually, not looking up on serebii on exactly what time of day or what weird thing to do, I'm not going to encounter a johto pokemon.
I've seen people argue "but it make dem speshul" Why am I guarunteed a shiny gyarados? Aren't shiny pokemon supposed to be special? Why is it easier to get an unknown and lugia over Qwilfish and dunsparce, two supposedly common pokemon?
Did you really think while playing r/b "man I hope I have to fight 10 people with nothing but bellsprouts on their team in a row in the sequel"
And Kanto, the main thing people praise gen 2 for, is objectively worse than the kanto from the first game. There's less content and hardly anything new.
Why wouldn't I just play a gen 1 game?
