When did Pokemon become a yearly series? Do you think this was a decision from Nintendo, a decision of GameFreak? Is there anyone who doesn't think the series would benefit from wider gaps?

it was a gamefreak decision, although putting out the 3rd version is generally done within only 1 or 2 years now, then only 1 or 2 years before the new generation comes out.
then after typing that paragraph, i looked and saw that generation 7 only existed to players for 3 years at the time generation 8 comes out, excluding the year finding out news in magazines and online

People overestimate the amount of control Game Freak has over the Pokemon series

Game development is the only thing they have control over. Stuff like the release deadlines, marketing, etc., that's all TPC and Nintendo's doing.

In terms of power over the Pokemon brand:

Nintendo > The Pokemon Company > Game Freak

I'd like some evidence on Nintendo being the one that decides release dates and deadlines, especially after delaying Animal Crossing and restarting development on Prime 4 from scratch.

Animal Crossing and Metroid aren't as big as Pokemon, they can afford a delay.

A delay for Pokemon would cost them billions on multiple fronts.

their business model is to release new games so frequently people get sick of them. they did it with layton, inazuma and youkai. it makes a lot of money short term but long term they're digging their own grave

apparently some tard at game freak though this was a great strategy so now they're just pumping out new shit with no regard to brand integrity or whatever you wanna call it.

Basically, they know they can get a stable profit every year so they rush and crunch to get one done a year.

Which can probably work fine, but they're not broken into 3/4 teams but instead only one team seemingly making a game within a year.
