Gamefreak will announce that you can transfer all pokemon to Sword and Shield but you can't use non Galar pokemon in online battles, would you be okay with that?

That's exactly how they should've done it. Have a competitive mode with Galar only mons and then a freeplay with friends where you can use all the mons. Their current solution is just laziness.

Gens 6 and 7 both allowed you to use Pokemon online. Ranked had a restriction that forced you to use only mons obtained in the current region, but you could always just breed the new mon. You could just not play ranked and keep using your old favorites.
