2. The designs were getting lazier every gen, up until they resorted to just redesigning old ones. (Megas/Alolan Alts). "100 new Pokemon!" hasn't been an exciting pitch since RSE.
3. You can still catch em all, in fact it'll be much easier now.

Not that anon, but you're implying that the National dex is somehow equivalent to the bulk of the new games when it's always been a single additional feature, often tacked onto the endgame in a "here's this thing" sort of way.
That image is ignoring all the new shit the game actually will have, primarily new story, mon, places etc.

A better food analogy here is to imagine Pokemon as everyone's favorite thing to shit on here, ice cream.

That IS the National Dex. In all the games if you wanted to use every pokemon you had to use transfer methods that became available because of the National Dex (though SM took a step away from this by allowing transfer but not having a national dex).

Point is, those extra pokemon you could transfer are the sprinkles. They're not something necessary or even intended in the game itself, they only were added because there was the feeling of obligation that GF is trying to escape from now.
The games aren't cut in half by not having those Pokemon, they're just missing the extra bit they would throw on in the past because people thought it was necessary when it really never was.

Every time an interesting feature gets cut, this is the tow line. Every time we didn't get the Battle Frontier, the following Pokemon, even shit like Gym Rematches, it was dismissed as "not necessary" as it became more and more barebones.

Correct, it isn't necessary for COMPLETION, but it's necessary for fucking replay value for these games. Even the gimmicks that affected the core gameplay that have seated themselves well enough in the competitive scene like Megas and Z-Moves are now being axed and called "not necessary."

You people really would still defend this shit even as Pokemon is reduced to a walking simulator, wouldn't you?

Battle Frontier and Gym Rematches are both additional content that actually adds to the game's content in an active way. Them being removed does suck and that's why everyone complains about post-games being shit in various games where they don't reach those kind of levels of interesting extra content.

Pokemon following, while cute, is entirely unnecessary. It's a small visual aid and adds to bonding, but they have Pokemon Amie and Refresh for that kind of stuff which I feel gives a way better feeling of pokemon Bonding.
The only exception to this is the following in LGPE, because that one they actually were able to do interesting stuff with it BECAUSE they had a limited dex in that game. They got to focus on a very small group of pokemon and do neat shit like riding a full size Onix.
They aren't doing something like that in S/S from what they've shown so far, but if this policy change means they can do something like that in the future, I'm all for it.

As for Megas and Z-moves, Megas are neat but I can understand them stepping away from them especially after they didn't bother making new ones for many generations. Z-moves needed to go. They were pretty, but the gimmick was annoying as hell. Dynamax also seems pretty annoying, but at least it will cause more strategic thinking.

That's pure hyperbole, but in that regard of course I wouldn't defend that, because that isn't the core of pokemon which is about catching, raising, trading and fighting Pokemon.
