new to pokemon and nintendo in general
watched the first season or something, the movie with slowking and have a basic understanding of types
wanna test the waters before buying a switch (or any other nintendo product)
starting with an emulation of omega ruby because the name sounds cool
is there something i need to know before i dive into this?
something in particular about this game?
is there a lore i need to follow from game to game?
should i start a different one instead?

Any games are a good starting point. Others you might want to try are HGSS.
No need to know anything beforehand. Pokemon is an easy game to pick up and isn't hard at all. Some games are sequels to others (like BW -> BW2) but you can go in it blind.

Try to not look for guides or walktroughs, it'll make the experience better.

Gay but still redpilled. Use whatever looks good (starter + mightyena + Gardevoir whatever mid to endgame shit you want) you won't need a flying pokemon since you get "soaring" before you even get fly.

Omega Ruby is a watered-down remake of Ruby. Just know that it isn't the usual standard of pokemon games, they're much better. Play HGSS and Platinum afterwards if you can.

Omega Ruby is fun, but there's a lot of flaws that people will give you since there are three distinct eras of Pokémon, and that's considered the nu-Pokémon era which is generally seen here as not as good. A lot of people have said to start with HG/SS or Emerald, and while I agree with that, I think you should try Black or White. Most people complain about the designs of Pokémon in that generation and since you don't have much of a frame of reference, you may enjoy it.

Also, on the second screen you'll have some options, one of them is called "Pokémon Amie", you can feed and play with your mons there, and increasing the level of affection (which is displayed with hearts) will give your mons certain bonus such as more experience or the capability to endure mortal hits sometimes.

If it still matters, I'd say Fire Red/Leaf Green. It's Kanto, plus you might know some of the pokémon so it's more familiar. It's easy to play, has nice graphics and the bases of pokémon.

You'll recieve a key item early on called an "Exp. (experience) share" which gives your pokemon experience points even if they didn't participate in battle. Whether or not you want that is up to you, as it can be toggled.

A lot of the negativity is justified, but frankly if you're new to the series, none of it will matter to you. There aren't actually any bad games in this series, just games that don't live up to the standards set by their predecessors.

You could check out Bulbapedia. In fact I'd recommend doing so, as it's probably the best reference site for the series as a whole.
Generally the series is divided into numbered generations, with the pokemon that debuted in a particular generation being grouped together. Each generation starts with a pair of games that debut a new region, but may include remakes of past games as well. So Hoenn, the region in ORAS, is generation 3, but ORAS itself is part of generation 6.
The generations can also be loosely grouped into eras according to the hardware they were released on, with consensus being that the 3DS era is the weakest.

On second thought, just know that games with a Key Item Exp Share (anything on the 3DS) are far easier - but still play it anyway. And then if you like, the next game you play on the 3DS deactivate the Exp Share as soon as you get to see how things change.

considering you're emulating, you will probably not be able to use the online features, some of which are pretty cool

for most games, not really. Johto-based games (Gold, Silver and Crystal, as well the remakes HeartGold and SoulSilver) are indirect sequels to Kanto-based games (Red, Green, Blue and Yellow, as well the remakes FireRed and LeafGreen), while Black 2 and White 2 are direct sequels to Black and White. but other than these games, you don't need to know anything. It's kinda like Final Fantasy in that they're standalone games.

it is fully compatible with DS games (Generation IV and V) and you can play GB/GBC games (Generation I and II) via Virtual Console.
I believe only Nintendo DS with the GBA slot thing have compatibility with GBA games.
speaking of which, transferring Pokemon from Generation 3 to Generation 4 is probably the most annoying out of all transfers, because it requires the whole GBA slot. the other transfers are simpler to setup (g1-g2 is special in that it's a two-way link, while g2-g3 transfer does not exist due to massive changes in data structure between these games, as well as some problems with Nintendo hardware they had while developing games)

I'd recommend starting with FireRed or Leafgreen, HGSS have a leveling curve that makes them better for a 2nd or 3rd run through, and the game is better experienced after FRLG.

That's only starting in Gen 6, Gen 5 (Black/white ect) are some of the if not the most difficult games. That anon means that exp is really scarce in HGSS so your team winds up kind of underleveled. It's not that bad when playing it though.

Did you encounter it in that mini-tutorial where May told you to sneak up on it? Certain pokemon that pop up in the grass (as shown by ears, a head, or something else popping out of the grass and shaking) have certain qualities that make them special, such as moves they normally don't learn, such as Ice Fang.

Another good pokemon is a bat-looking-thing with no eyes called Zubat. It evolves into Golbat at a certain level, and if you keep Golbat with you long enough, it'll evolve into Crobat. Worth the wait, in my opinion

i am not sure
there is a speed bar at the bottom of the emulator
when i tap +/- it goes up/down by 5%
as far as i tested it can range from 5% to 1000+%, both almost crashed the game

Let's Go is also a great starting point, albeit missing a lot of features. Jumping from LGPE to SW/SH is also a good idea, but I suggest playing Generation 3 (Emerald & FR/LG) to Gen 4. Those in my opinion are the golden age of Pokemon games.

fyi there's a part in the game where you can participate in pokemon contests and you go up on this stage and you get to play dress-up with this pikachu and you have to make your pokemon act as cute/cool/smart/tough/pretty as humanly possible and it's really adorable
