The stuff doesn't NEED to be sold immediately. Doing something else in the meantime while it sits in a warehouse would damage them for what amounts to pennies to them.
Just make more "filler" anime like they did for Gen 1 and 2 and release more Gen 7 shit (and if they feel like "but we've already run through all of that!" too damn bad, it's their mistakes coming back to bite them in the ass).
Things like the movie don't even matter at all. It's not like Mega Mewtwo and Magearna and a shit load of others in games not released yet didn't appear long before the games did.
