If the games visuals were rebuilt from the ground up and actually befitting of a major home console release, which you be OK with axing a lot of pokemon?

If they also brought back older features like rebattling trainers/gyms, battle frontier, all of that cool postgame stuff, and actually did something with the smaller roster, it'd be a possibility.
Then again if it didn't have my favorite mons available in the code at all, I wouldn't give it the time of day regardless so just put everything in the game and I'll be fine with it.

Yes, if the animations are better then battle revolution, and each pokemon showed strong character I would be ok with not getting all of the pokemon. Not going to happen though.

The only way I'd be remotely okay with that is if they made it a spinoff like Colosseum with very current gen graphics. That probably would have been a good mid-step anyway before making a full console release, and a colosseum setup explains why most pokemon can't be obtained. Take it a step further and also only allow transfers outward and it's even more clear. Include a random Event legend as the focus of the plot so they have something relatively rare and new to focus on and they're golden

If the game was a full featured game with a good story, clever gameplay, and graphics that at least are Gamecube level (I'd ask for more but this is still gamefreak), then yes. Especially if each generation improved on things

No, the visuals alone won't cut it. They have to improve the animations, the frame rate, add difficulty options and stop introducing dumber gimmicks while cutting content. They also need to realise that kids haven't been the main audience for these games for ages.
