I honestly have no idea. My best theory is that the asset was made early in development before anything else was finished and the art style was still in limbo and then they never bothered to update it to fit in with everything else. Or maybe it's intentional so the berry trees are easy to spot. But it it's ugly as fuck and looks easy to fix.

If you were serious I would say this is a very legible scenario. The cut tree is less detailed than the other trees (which by the way look shittier than the RS trees) and smaller so the player could expect to be able to cut it. On the other hand HMs were integrated so horribly that this situation is more annoying than rewarding even when you get the item. Plus, I never liked that items were in pokballs only but hey it's fine
