Why is Pokemon LGPE more artistically cohesive then Sword & Shield? Is James Turner a hack?

I've been looking at videos of LGPE lately and it looks kind of nice, serviceable at least. I'm not fond of the chibi artstyle but the rest is okay. Too bad about the actual game though.

Because everything looks like it was made for the same game rather than a mishmash of things that look like they're taken from other games.

I like it because all the gameboy games and DS games looked like that. It feels more like the natural progression of the artstyle as opposed to the more realistically proportioned characters we're getting in SwSh, which I don't think look very good.
