Should trainer classes be gen 9's gimmick?

Breeders could hatch eggs faster and gain exp quicker.
Bug catchers could get improved damage with bug Pokemon.
Ace trainers could have an improved catch rate or encounter rate for rare Pokemon.
Etc etc

Sounds awful. A new exp gimmick should be ribbon based, 1% more exp per ribbon obtained.

Could be utilized in lieu of the old stat boosts Gym Badges gave. Could instead of giving Speed boost from Gen 1 or Item-Type Damage Boost from Gen 2 could do stuff that makes interacting with mechanics more effective. Kinda boring that Gym badges these days only really make you able to use traded Pokemon that are a higher level.

How would you even balance something like that, gameplay-wise?
If you don’t tack on a negative for every big positive, or some huge tax for choosing/swapping classes, it just turns into a chore having to go and swap classes to get the buff you need at any given moment.
PSS and old trainer cards showing your chosen NPC class was enough for me, game freak couldn’t handle something like this without axing the other 50% of the pokedex.
Cool idea though.

The Ace Tainer one in particular is really broken-sounding. Why the fuck would I want more bug damage when I can easily catch better mons with better types?

It sounds interesting, but it sounds difficult to balance in a way that makes them all useful. Like bug catches and fishers are pretty limited in the types of benefits they can give, while later game trainer classes like ace trainers and veterans are almost certain to have broad, general benefits.

It's an RPG. RPGs usually have classes that you choose at the start of the game and can't change until the end, if at all. The buffs can be changed around, the point is that Pokemon should start incorporating classes into its character creation.

Sounds like this could be a good concept. But I think it should instead be minor things like extra damage for certain types (ex: ruin maniacs get bonuses for ground and ancient pokemon) or the ability to find rare pokemon of certain types with unique moves or abilities in the wild.

Locking in at the beginning would work fine so long as you can change it post-game.

Breeder:
>eggs hatch twice as quickly, stacking with flame body for .25x distance required

I would like to be able to join a trainer class, have the player character wear that outfit and enjoy the buffs that go with it. Since you could only be one at a time there would at least be some strategy involved. Another thing that would be nice is if every npc had a unique model with their outfit denoting their trainer class, but that would be far too much work for Gamefreak.

At least make it costumes you unlock zo you can swap as necessary depending on fights or content

Give me a game with professions but you can have as many as you want and max them out.

Engineer/ scientist - craft tm's level up your tm making skill to unlock the good tm's. Make a porygon or some shit upon maxing it out.

Botanists/ herbalist - idk Berries or some shit other healing items.

Chemist - make potions and revives eventually become skilled enough to make max revives and shit.

Ball Crafter - get a bonus master ball upon making out the profession.

Geologist - evolutionary stones and crap... Fossils.

What if instead of them being a class they become in game jobs where you develop skills that transfer over to your base character?
The job you were best at or spent the most time doing then becomes your Trainer Title.

Could combine it with the Trainer Class idea and make the benefits more specific. Like Bug catcher gets you Honey, and Net balls, while Hiker would be Heavy Balls and Escape ropes, for example.
