A French youtuber had the opportunity to test Sword/Shield and was able to gather small info about Dynamax
- Dynamax boosts the hp stat ONLY, by 50%
- Max moves are much weaker than Z-Moves :
>Double-Edge 120BP -> Max Strike 140BP
>Take Down 90BP -> Max Strike 130BP

Well that would at least explain why a Dynamax Wooloo could only 2HKO a regular Goldeen

Aren’t both of those by virtue of the maxed Pokemon getting +1 to every stat?
So it’s getting +1 to defenses and attack stats at the same time, compounding with the changes you mentioned.

I have no idea whether that actually makes it decent in practice though.

Those secondary effects are what I believe will really make a difference in terms of competitive complexity, the fact that Max Moves exist that both do damage AND change Terrain/Weather are extraordinary, I'm more interested in how they're going to handle the odd moves in their transition to Max Moves, like Destiny Bond and such which had very unique Z-boosts, odds are Max Moves are going to drop the uniqueness and hone in on more clustered Max alternatives.

Since there's a species culling though, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an Attack list culling to some extent outside of signatures.

Interesting, so I guess maybe DynaMax Level does just imply how many turns of DynaMax we get.

Was hoping the level would change boosts.

I'm sorta of confused. How is dynamaxing supposed to balance the game when it's just a generic boost to pokemon?

Doesn't this just make strong pokemon stronger and weaker pokemon still weak?

I'm sure it'll still be too generic to work because GF can hardly balance a checkbook, but there are DynaMax Levels which so far seem to be 3 for NFEs and shitmons, we haven't seen 3's afaik for the top tier brass.

Because any Pokemon has the capacity to use it, you'd generally be doing overkill if using it on your strong mon but potentially boosting your weak mon to the capability of tanking the right hits or making the right kills.

All GF needs to do now is get rid of all battle gimmicks (including Dynamaxing) and buff all the shitmons affected and the metagame will be good again

These are fairly good news. Doesn't really make Dynamaxxers juggernauts, but the buff to move power will matter.
The Max HP buff will probably mostly just benefit mons who already rely primarily on their high HP to tank, but maybe some mons who are usually held back by low HP and has good defenses will appreciate it as well.

Remember that max moves have effects too, like stats boosts, debuffs, weather and terrains. So it's pretty balanced buffing only the hp with the dynamax, the problem is that 50% is maybe too low.

Or, you can Dynamax Gyarados since the Max Flying move boosts speed, the Max Water move causes rain, and Moxie boosts its attack whenever it gets a KO.
