never understood why you would do a fangame instead of your own IP. Is the setting of Pokemon really that impressive for you?

I mean, you could hypothetically charge actual money if the game is different enough, which would not take a lot, especially since most fangames seem to have an obsession with making an entirely new pokedex with 200 fakemons and nothing returning

If you make your own game and it comes even remotely close to Pokémon then chances are it will get shit on by Pokéfags and then be doomed to obscurity forever. Even big names like Monster Hunter had this problem, stepping out of Pokémon's shadow isn't easy.

Something I've always wanted to do, and have every now and again attempted to work on before real life stuff gets in the way, is a Pokemon Stadium type game. No huge world and expansive story, just a good number of high quality monsters and in-depth mechanics. Plus animation - since I'm all about design and animation as a hobbyist.
