>>39094276It's not laziness. The decision not to include every Pokemon that ever existed was wise.
1. Animation & Polish
Compare the animations in Pokemon Sun & Moon to Pokemon Let's Go. Sun & Moon looked awful, but Let's Go looked better than a Pokemon has looked in a long time. We were able to ride every Pokemon we conceivably could ride, and we could finally see Pokemon on the overworld. The only reason they were able to do that is because they were dealing with just 153 Pokemon, and not 800+.
GameFreak has seemed lazy for the past few years because every new animation involving Pokemon has to be done hundreds of times for every Pokemon in existence. That's why Pokemon Pelago looked so shitty. If they kept this up, they'd be using the same combat animations forever, and you people would keep bitching about how they're "lazy."
2. Diversity & Balance
Competitive battlers, streamers, every Smogon shithead, and even some casuals tend to use the same old Pokemon generation after generation. If I can trade my perfect IV battle-ready Blaziken and Mewtwo into the new games, why would I use anything new that has inferior stats? Nine times out of ten, the flying bug they released this gen is no better and is often worse than the ones from previous generations. Barely any Pokemon in a new game actually make it into the competitive battling or streaming scene.
And that doesn't just affect hardcore players, because casual players WATCH those guys. It's just like how MtG casual players, even if they don't have a competitive deck, know what the competitive players are up to and keep up with the news. It's bad for everyone if we keep bringing back every Pokemon from any previous generation that isn't completely invalidated by a new Pokemon.
Said another way, if new Pokemon can be worthless before they're even released, that harms the game.
In short, limiting the Pokemon they have to include will be better for game balance and will enable GameFreak to do a better job.
