Why did he announce the dexit thing? Had he said nothing this controversy wouldn't happen until the release of the game.

And by announcing it earlier rather than later, it'll greatly reduce the amount of backlash it receives. The entire thing has already died down and we're like 4 months away from release. Nobody is going to care by the time comes out.

Because he likely did not expect this level of backlash. Basically, a kind of side comment he didn't think would cause controversy. It's why he's been mostly silent on social media now, because the rest of the people at Gamefreak probably have put him on "DON'T FUCKING TALK IN PUBLIC" after that happened.

Because it was decided that they would actually announce this shortly before the release of Home in 2020, so that the controversy wouldn't effect the sales of the game, but Masuda was not happy with this, so he leaked it for us to show the higher ups just how bad of an idea it was.

by that logic, they should have dumped this news on a friday afternoon right after legpiss came out. then the controversy would have died down long before they even showed the first trailer for sword/shield.
