>>39110872The fact that some of the designs, while cool in concept, were poorly executed, either by overcomplicating a design with pointless shapes and stripes or anthropomorphising more than what had been done in the past. The first just betrays basic design philosophy as it adds detail that doesn’t help elaborate what the design is trying to be. The second is annoying because you get a concept like scolipede, but draw it in a way that makes it furry bait where stuff like ariados or ninjask normally wouldn’t. You also have Pokemon like sawk, throh, or the elemental monkeys, that feel like complete filler and are incredibly boring concept-wise. That’s not to say that there aren’t good Pokemon. Every generation has good Pokemon. Volcarona is great, garvantula is great, the alien guys, bug waifu, Haxorus are all genuinely good Pokemon. It’s just unfortunate they have to share a dex with some of the worst Pokemon in the series.
