>>39120286The balancing act of Megas is that they're not allowed to hold items (except for Mega Rayquaza, who was never intended to be balanced in the first place and isn't likely to be fought in any actual game unless you willingly go jumping into that ballpark) and that you are limited to 1 a team due to their large improvements.
Many Megas play drastically different to how their normal base form plays, such as Chlorosaur vs Mega Saur, Steelix, Aggron, Diancie, Sableye, Mawile, Pidgeot, Blastoise, Swampert, Charizard-X, etc etc etc. The few megas who break this mold simply give them enough BST to actually do the role they were designed for in the first place without their stats holding them back, at the cost of no item (which is huge, considering how strong items can be).
Personally if they removed Chlorophyll from Venusaur and remixed all his stats I'd be pretty pissed because I enjoy using Chlorosaur. But I also like using his Mega when I'm in the mood for it. I like having the option to choose how to use him and go for either a fast powerful sweeper or a slow durable tank. I don't want that choice made for me.
If everyone's special than no-one is. Buffing everything at once makes the problem worse, not better. If a Beedrill and a Salamence hold a Z-Crystal than the Beedrill is still god-awful. If they both get Dynamaxed then the Salamence is still going to fucking obliterate most of the opposition with stab flying moves, on top of building it's speed due to that effect (and if abilities still function while dynamaxed then Moxie will basically make it even stronger than his mega, jfc).
But if those two pokemon hole a Mega Stone then Beedrill no longer has to worry about being looked over for Salamence. Mega Beedrill is strong on it's own in a way Mega Salamence isn't, it allows it to hold it's own without being burdened by the knowledge of being outclassed at it's job. It has a chance.
