the majority of the animations in gen 5 look fine, and even if they don't: The base "idle" pose sprites in gen 5 generally look better then the base sprites for gen 4.

the gen 2 sprites hold up really well and have a neat visual aeshetic, but "objectively" gen 4 and 5 have better sprite quality.

Gen 3 arguably too but the aeshetic for gen 3 sprites is ugly as fuck

The ugly animation ruins them they'd be better if they were stationary.
I love gen II particularly Crystal, IV is pretty good too.
FRLG had decent sprites, but RSE is ugly as fuck and off-model half the time so I nominate them as the worst.

I'm partial to Gen 5, but even I know they had bad sprite work. When moving they were pretty bad, but when kept static they're actually pretty good.
Gen 2, though, had the best sprites of the entire series. Dynamic without needing actual motion, and made the best out of the limited color palette.
But, in truth, they all are good when compared to Gen 6 and beyond. Absolute travesty.

Depends on the mon. Some look better in one gen than in others.

Gen 3 will always have the best starmie sprite to me, Bellossom looks the best in gen 2, I love whatever the fuck Geodude was suppose to be in gen 1, etc, etc
