I guess I'll just spend more time on Digimon, Dragon quest, I might try out Yo-Kai watch 4 if it comes out.
I already had a few things I liked other then Pokemon so really it's all the same just with Pokemon as an option removed.
Also Romhacks, some of them are good, or just good for a laugh.

I really wanted to trywith DQM Joker III, but the late game becomes a grinding slog of getting the literal best possible min/maxed units to get through the last leg of the game. I probably had less than an hour of actual content left in the game, but probably 200+ hours of grinding for better monsters to reach it. It just wasn't worth my time.

I should pick up DQXI while I'm at it, been wanting to try one.
So many games that have more effort put into them than what Pokemon has, I won't be picking up another game until by some miracle they hire a different producer and director. Even Yokai Watch 4 confirmed they'll be patching the other yokai in since they remade all the models with new animations, feels good to like other franchises.

Treyarch sacrificed everything they had going for them just for a flavor-of-the-month Battle Royale. Not to mention the worst microtransaction system ever implemented in a video game. Have fun spending $1000 just to never get the weapon you want.

No one's pushing an agenda, get that out of your head.

At least IW and Sledgehammer had guaranteed methods of earning what you want. Treyarch knows their fans will eat anything up and acts accordingly.

I’ll finally finish a playthrough of Morrowind, wrap up my Pillars of Eternity 2 playthrough, and use what ever’s left of my free time to read comics until Animal Crossing and Cyberpunk hit.

Seriously though, fuck Game Freak for pulling this shit. Pokémon’s practically been a habit for me over the past fifteen years, and having what I’m guessing is about 75% of my mons rendered unusable, knowing their stupidity, feels like they’re trying to salt the earth for older players to not come back. It’ll suck at first, but with everything coming out, it won’t be that bad.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder if Masuda just wanted older fans out. He’s been on record saying that he doesn’t like how much time people spend on competitive breeding and building. Moreover, he’s had an obsession with drawing in shorter attention spanned players in from the smartphone crowd, and most of those people are the same ones who would make the, “there’s too many Pokémon, I’ll never beat it” argument.

But yeah, PoE2’s great. I’d suggest playing PoE1 first because your character transfers and the story’s excellent, pretty involved. If you’re okay with Baldur’s Gate style gameplay and liked the writing from Fallout New Vegas, you’ll like PoE, as it has the same writers from the latter. I personally really don’t like top-down RPGs, but PoE’s writing carries it. Best recommendation I could give for an RPG, personally.

DQXI is a lot of fun if you're considering it, the Switch port is slightly worse graphically than the PC/PS4 versions but has a load more content being added so it'll probably be worth it. If nothing else, I'm at least spending money on a good game twice rather than a bad game once.

Probably, yes.
The games are similar since the mapping, exploration, most of the battle system, DOE/FOE come from Etrian Odyssey.
In most of the EO games, you don't have fixed characters in your party but customisable ones of different classes instead
EO Untold / EO Untold 2 are remakes of the first and second games and have both a story mode with fixed characters, and a classic mode that plays like the other games
One thing though : EO games have WAY LESS dialogue than Persona Q, even for the Untold games.

Probably Monster Hunter. Don't know if you could call it an rpg, but I've XX laying around here for a while now. Time to finally play it. And maybe Persona, was always interested in it just never found myself the motivation to really give it a try.

Been playing Xenobalde 2 and it's fucking amazing, my biggest regret was ignoring other JRPGs in favor of Pokemon all the way up till Gen 7. My friend gave me access to her entire steam libray so I'm gonna play Nier Tomato as soon as I finish XB2 (which probably won't be a while). Outside of that I've been paying really close attention to Yokai Watch, I really hope 4 gets localized since it looks gorgeous.

Honestly speaking I think the reason people defend Pokemon and Gamefreak is because they grew up playing Pokemon and never, ever tried leaving this bubble, so they don't actually know what a good JRPG is. It's really sad in a way.

I only just found out that I completely missed the yokai watch 3 release so I've been occupying myself with that at the moment. It's... genuinely upsetting how much content it has in comparison to the past couple pokemon gens.

That, and digimon survive once it comes out... hopefully soon! Still no news about it...

we're getting news soon. habu is co-hosting a digimon panel at anime expo with the producer of the upcoming movie. they're even taking fan questions, while game freak is busy ignoring all feedback from their fans.

the most incredible part is that when habu first started making the games, he wasn't a digimon fan and knew nothing about the series. so he talked to the people who were already working on the games and the anime to get a better understanding of the source material, and it eventually became a passion project for him.
meanwhile, pokemon has game freak lifers in charge who don't give a fuck about the quality of the series they created anymore.

I hate to circlejerk about it, but I was actually playing cyber sleuth lately on stream for a friend who wanted to see it, and what with all the discussion about GF's animation quality, it really hit home how much effort and character went into the animations. A lot are even perfectly replicated from the anime.

I've been replaying World of Final Fantasy, which is Pokemon in everything but name. Really hope they make a sequel like they hinted, because it does a lot of what Game Freak is too lazy to do.
