Sun and Moon anime league is nonsense, we already know that nobody is able to block Kukui/Masked Royal Incineroar, SM anime literally introduced the league champion early on...

1. defeated all pokemon in the introducion episode
2. defeated all revengers in another episode
3. destroyed team rocket and mega aggron with dark type Z move
4. probably destroyed guzma in past

At least they put it as the exhibition match because if Kukui was competing there was no way he was losing. Unfortunatey, because of that exhibition match we now know that only Ash and Guzma have a shot at winning

Kukui/Masked Royal isn't competing in the League though, he's just having an exhibition match against the winner.

The match against him is just an exhibition match, so the winner of the League is still the Champion whether they win or lose.

m8, the Orange Islands League literally required you to get the four badges to compete, every other league requires you to collect 8 badges. Alola's league is literally open to anyone regardless if they completed the island trials or challenge. That's why Guzma can even enter and you literally have Lillie competing with one Pokemon, Mallow with one or two as well, Sophocles with two, etc. Then there's the Battle Royale where you're not even required to battle because there are 16 spots, just survive. So you're bound to get a few lucky people that get in because they avoided battling out-right.
At least the games had Kukui planning the league but wanting the best. In the anime anyone and their mother can enter.
