>>39144254Here's an idea: Ditto reproduces through mitosis rather than "breeding," hence why it doesn't lay eggs of itself. Then, what if genderless wild pokemon, save for legendaries, are offspring of ditto that attempted to mimic their surroundings? Like, a ditto sees a powerplant, then attempts to recreate it (turning into a magnemite). Then, when it breeds with other ditto, the resulting offspring is no longer capable of "exiting" the transformation, like the creation of an entirely new genome.
