except those are champions, and the whole point of them is that they're the absolute strongest and best of the trainers in the region

Nobody has a good excuse to be monotype, the only reason it's still a thing is because GameFreak doesn't like change or trying new shit. The examples I gave are all champions because that's the only time they bother to do it for some reason. Don't you think it would be more interesting to walk into a new gym and have no idea what you'll face? To see a trainer with four pokemon and actually wonder what they will have and be surprised with each reveal?

I mean the random nobody trainers are like they, but i mean, they don't really count because they can't possibly ever win.

Also because training Pokemon is, lore-wise, a lot more complicated than the games make it seem, so specializing in one specific field is a lot more logical than just doing a whole ton of unrelated shit at once.

Most Track & Field athletes specialize as well despite the majority of events just involve running and maybe jumping.

In the Gamecube game, Colosseum the three main bosses had diverse teams but focused on different strategies like earthquake+protect combos, status spam, and rain dance. I wish they'd do that in the main games. Even when Candice had Medicham and Volkner used Octillery and Ambipom I thought that was cool cause it caught me off guard

This is both the in-universe and gameplay reason. But for some reason people forget the main story of these games is catered towards toddlers which is why difficulty options should be a thing again

in real life a dog trainer, a horse trainer, and a bird trainer are usually different people. It's rare for someone to just be a master of all animals, so you have specialists depending on which animal you're talking about.

in pokemon it's the same, except they're segregated by type
