Introduce trainer classes or jobs and titles. Ranger, bug catcher, breeder, Ace etc.

Rebalance shitmons to make them just a little more viable competitively. Not necessarily through megas, just alter some base stats. Dynamax is a shit solution

The games don't have to be full on open world. That open area is a step in the right direction

Provide a difficulty setting or make the game scale to your ability somewhat

This but not everything is available all the time, bring back seasons and have a decent number only show up under the right conditions. Don't make the game linear, if you want to bee-line to the frozen tundra to evolve Glaceon then fucking go for it, have fun. Maybe have some special locations like mirage islands that are procedurally generated.

- Secret Bases with QR sharing.
- The fancy Villa with visitors and rematches.
- Berry Planting, with its new features from XY, merged with the Honey Tree mechanic from DPPt.
- Super Contests, with expanded dress-up ala Musicals, and the Photoclub feature for when we win a contest.
- PokéAthlon.
- Berry cooking, to make either Pokéblocks (to increase friendship), Poffins (to increase Contest stats), or Juice (to increase PokéAthlon stats).
- Walking Pokémon (with Shiny Leaves).
- Join Avenue.
- Seasons.
- Dark Tall Grass, Flower Grass, and other such things to make the overworld and wild Pokémon encountering more unique.
- Shaking Spots.
- Hidden Grottos.
- DexNav.
- Soaring, except any big enough flying Pokémon can be used.
- PokéRides, but with our own Pokémon, where some behave differently (like Sharpedo being a faster surfer like in ORAS).
- A combination of the original Safari Zone, the "build your own" from HGSS, and Friend Safari.
- PokéPelago.
- Ultra Warp Ride, but with better controls and proper rewards, and new areas to explore instead of just linear hallways.
- A proper Battle Frontier, with the best facilities we've seen so far (from Emerald, from Platinum, Inverse Battles, Battle Royal, etc.)
- The Pokémon World Tournament, with an Elite Four Tournament now, and a Special Tournament for old protagonists/rivals/important characters (like N, Zinnia, Lillie, etc.)
- Black Tower and White Treehollow, those were great at making grinding fun.
- Easy and Challenge Modes, but unlocked from the get-go.
- The PSS.
- Mega Evolution, but make the designs actually good.
- Z-Moves, but without the cutscenes.
- And much, much more.

I know this is an awfully long list, but remember I wouldn't even be making it in the first place if Gamefreak didn't fucking remove everything good they ever made all the god damn time.

That alone is already far beyond Gamefreak's amature skill level. The bastards can't even program simply movement algorithms for their NPCs.

I like what you're going for, but I feel like it's missing a sense of evolution. Like bringing back Musicals for example, what the fuck is the point if Super Contests are also being brought back? Just merge the two and expand on that result to create something new and better, a feature that's bigger than the sum of its parts.

- Bring back as many features as possible from older games, like everyone else in this thread has mentioned. Expand upon them, make them better, and just focus on making a good game. A good overworld, good writing, good features. Simply put, the focus should be simple. Make the core good, and focus on bringing back fan-favourite features.

The Next Game
- Bring back the rest of the features and of course expand on them as well. Now focus on expanding the core Pokémon concept, like >>39152522's ideas. Something to shake up the Pokémon formula and really evolve the series like Super Mario Odyssey or Breath of the Wild did. Not too much at once, of course, there should still be focus. But something like Open World + Pokémon Variations would be super cool, especially with old features having returned such as Seasons, Walking Pokémon, Soaring, Contests, and so on.

Mine is simple. I just want a game where all 900+ (after sword and shield) pokemon are catchable. It can work with seasons being brought back and more dynamic weather (also I really love the seasons idea from black and white and if it was weekly and not monthly it would be perfect and I want them to bring it back).

The Poke Pager was a good idea. Now make it so you can select which of the pokemon you own should be paged
Full character customization
Character classes that give small perks
Following Pokemon - feel free to exclude those too big to make sense.
Option to have any small pokemon sit on your shoulder
Berry planting where you don't literally have to plant, mulch and water every 80 individual plants!
Remove all off-game stuff like Festival Plaza and integrate them more into the regular game world
Difficulty setting. Hard mode means more pokemon per trainer (all gym leaders and E4 has 6!), full movesets and actual AI strategies
An actual Nuzlocke setting. It's a little bit tedious to remember all the self-imposed rules. Especially between saves
Gradually start putting old mythical pokemon in the regular game like Deoxys
Some mythical/legendary gets a quest line unlocked after certain achievements (beat E4 X times, get Y rank in Battle tower, own full dex... or what ever). Stuff that's hard, but not impossible
New starter types. I don't give a damn if they are internally balanced. Just something new instead of water/fire/grass
Vastly larger region. It's the goddamn Switch! At least 4x the size of current regions. No games ever really use the final ~40 levels anyways
Remove roadblocks - If you want to go into the level 50 area with your Caterpie, go for it!
