>>39164708It's not even about my favorite being in or not. I'm probably going to use a team of 6 new Pokemon for my first playthrough regardless.
The fact is, post game in Pokemon has been diminishing. At least in Gen 7, even without the national dex, you could complete a living dex or just try to get everything for the hell of it, which is a time sink and keeps you coming back to the game every once in a while. That's gone now.
On other playthrough's, I'd often do challenge runs. Nuzlock is the most obvious and doesn't really matter here since that can still be done just the same. But things like Egglocks and Wonderlockes, which are runs that involve getting 6 Eggs from other people or 6 Wondertraded mons are now basically stripped of the fun because there can be no diversity. It will always be from the same pool of Pokemon. Back in Gen 5 when I first started doing Egglockes, you never knew what you were gonna get. And that was what made it fun, different people would breed you different Pokemon for different reasons. It could be a favorite of theirs, it could be to add a layer of challenge, it could just be something they experienced using recently and want others too. All of that is now gone as well.
In the end, I have no problem with a limited dex like Black/White had. I think that's fun and encourages you a unique first playthrough that you might not experience otherwise. But it just doesn't work the same when you're having to sacrifice all of this other content/play styles like Sw/Sh is doing.
