Pokemon fights are not very fun to watch. It's just the trainers repeatedly telling their Pokemon to dodge. The real problem with the SM anime was how bad the animation was compared to the XY anime.

Don't do this to yourelf, this is the most ill prepared, underpowered, least battle experienced team he's ever had, the set up for this league is more fun than serious, just like the rest of the season, a season where he wasn't really being serious to begin with and just enjoying himself during vacation time.

They had animated trailers for the games like BW2, ORAS, and now Pokemon Masters that have different protags. BW2 showing teens instead of 10 year olds. They had special Suicune episode that showed Gold/Ethan and Kris/Crystal. I am sure they could do with other protags.

It's never been used to mean that. Even the original KANTO games use it to mean "Pokemon world champion", back before they retconned out that the world's only Pokemon League and Elite Four is in Kanto and that Pokemon battling is mostly a Kanto thing.
