Your Father gives you the starter choice then goes on a journey of his own, to save Mom.
You can't leave until you've beaten your Trainer School faculty, who are members of the organisation, once you've done that you can go back to school to prepare.
So you don't just journey but as you progress you find that cities Gym Leader, police and local trainers to start a reclaim battle, once the city is taken back you can challenge the real Gym Leader.
The E4 and Champion are different, you go through it once with organisation elits and Leader, then it changes, after a successful defeat of the Leader, to the actual E4 and Champion.
It is revealed that the playable character's mom is the champion, with your father the last E4 member to face. Once you defeat your mom she returns home and you can battler her once a day.
Then it's like Alola where you battle your way to your throne, then random characters come back, including the father, mother organisation leader and other characters.
