Why couldn't you evolve Eevee into Leafeon ten years ago when the Leaf Stone was already a thing? Why, because it's gotta be a *special* Leaf Stone, ya dummy! A special stone that every region has exactly one of, except specifically the ones we've been to up to this point. Duh!
The only exception to this so far has been Feebas, and that's only because the entire mechanic its evolution gimmick was based on got wholly removed. I expect the same thing to happen to Sylveon eventually. I want to believe Inkay's would also change but I'll be surprised if every console for the rest of time doesn't have an accelerometer built into it.
I'm all for the spice of some fun evolution mechanics but I'm pretty sick of the ones that paint GF into corners like this.
