Took me years to realise the janky walking speed in certain locations was due to the game lagging when loading everything on the map, because they effectively disguised it as "walking on cobblestones". Makes me miss the time Game Freak put soul into these games.

Actually yes. That's exactly what made the region great.

Hoenn and Shinoh were the pinacle of Pokemon world design. This clearly separates CHAD explorers from virgin casuals.

The pokemon selection was pretty garbage, but that world was huge as shit. I'd love it if it were remade with better pokemon spread throughout it. If you don't start with infernape you're not getting a fire until ponyta.

Every proper adventure has roadblocks that inconvenience your progression. Pokemon games hold your hand and funnel you through shitty routes all the time because shitters can't handle the most minor of inconveniences. Maybe next time they'll take out side paths altogether and just throw every item on the main path on the way to the next city so children don't have to worry about "problems" like backtracking or exploration.

What a waste of time. Just cut all the bullshit and warp me to the next cutscene without bogging me down with "gameplay", "exploration", "secrets", and "decision-making". There's no point in having a big hidden temple filled with Guardians if there's no story and cutscenes to go with it. You're just wasting my time by making it area I can travel over.

I mean it pretty much had everything. Even with dual slot mode, Elekid was found at the Valley Windworks with FireRed (because Electabuzz was exclusive to FireRed and Electric Pokémon like Pachirisu are found there) and Magby was found at the Fuego Ironworks with LeafGreen (because Magmar was exclusive to LeafGreen and Fire Pokémon appear around Fuego Ironworks). It still felt like it had actual thought put into it compared to the Friend Safari which was "Lets put 200+ Pokémon behind a generic feature because we can't think of interesting encounters for them in time".

I still play Platinum on the regular. I have some solid bros in that cart and it was the first time where I would peruse serebii and get up to date on all of the wifi events.

Catching Shaymin and Darkrai were fucking dope as hell with their small lil cutscenes and stories.

Sinnoh was great, but most of the flaws are from older game's designs like HMs being a thing and TMs being used once. In a 3D remake for the switch it could be the best game so long as they change very little except make the event areas accessed in a similar manner to the delta episode, remove roaming pokemon, fix the TM+HM nonsense (default), and add a bunch of newer pokemon and legendaries in a similar way to ORAS.

are you talking about the Cathedral?
