but how do they stop you to just paying for it once and storing everything in sword and shield or another switch game?
well, by not allowing you to transfer all pokemon to those games.
every other excuse they've made up for the culling is a lie. This is the reason why they are doing it. So you pay for their storage service, or else you lose your pokemon forever.

Actually it's because Bank is a 3DS application, Home will be on Switch and phones and compatible with Go and LGPE
So what they had to do was
>Make a Switch, Android and iOS version of a 3DS application that was originally meant to only work on 3DS
>Make sure that pokemon from Go, LGPE and Galar can't be sent back to the 3DS games
>Add whatever gameplay functionalities Home will have

Or they could just make a new app
