I mean, would reviews even matter that much? just checking amazon stuff for sales to see preorders, and sword is the only one of the three in the top 100 for all games. it, the double pack, and shield have all sat in the same spot in the switch only list for about a week now, so there hasn't been too many more sales. some damage has been done, I dunno if a review from a game site will change a lot of minds.

Game reviews generally don't reflect the actual opinions of the reviewer, but rather that they think fans want to hear, which is why Pokémon games usually get undeservedly high scores all of the time. Considering the backlash these games have gotten, though, I think they'll end up sitting around the 70-80 range. Low enough to please people who are pissed about the games, but also high enough to please the shit eaters who aren't.

Well, you do need to take into account that the biggest reason people are pissed is because of the culling, which doesn't impact reviewers at all since they don't play to the endgame anyway.

>In this troubled day and age, we don't need an overly convoluted Pokemon game filled with old ideas, mechanics, and stale designs. This bold new adventure sets the stage for a even more streamlined Pokemon RPGs a la Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, which, for an old-school fan like me who hasn't played a mainline Pokemon game in 15 years, is a very good thing. The only issue I have is that 35 new Pokemon available is almost too much, and I could've done with roughly 200 more old Pokemon cut out entirely (essentially, anything after Mew is redundant, contrary to what fans stuck in the past believe). Dynamaxing keeps the gameplay fresh and exciting, and watching my favorite mons like Scorbunny grow to gigantic size in a stadium of screaming fans is a rush that lasted throughout my 10 hour campaign. The vibrant characters are especially memorable, taking the designs and themes to new heights never before imagined in a Pokemon game. I was nervous that the game would drag on past the 9 hour mark, but the conscious less-is-more philosophy made me glad that the endgame didn't overstay its welcome. The graphics suffer slightly in some places, but the transition to Nintendo Switch is a largely gorgeousc smooth affair that only the pedantic would scoff at. Looked at through the eyes of a young fan, new to the series and without the aged biases of older fanboys, the cartoonish textures are thrilling to witness, epitomizing a Pokemon design philosophy never quite captured by 2-D sprites or 3DS limitations. All-in-all, while some fans will lament petty details here and there, Gamefreak and Nintendo have hit another homerun, energizing the Pokemon series by cutting out the fat and delivering an experience that lingers.

yeah? I didn't follow lgpe stuff. still, that game sold six million less than sun and moon. it amounts to something, considering both eevee and pikachu versions of let's go are higher on the lists.
