Honestly I never really cared for graphics that much in pokemon but after the shitstorm even I fucking complained because they said they prioritized quality over quantity which was never the case in pokemon especially after gen V

To be fair the japs only used their hashtag the very same day of the announcement, after that the whole thing died down super fast. You can go to the jap pokemon twitter right now and the only people still using it are the same 7 westerners trying to take to keep the thing alive.
