For some reason I just hate Pokemon that don't evolve or have pre-evolutions, and have nothing interesting about them (pokemon like Wishiwashi and Mimikyu get a pass).
I mean, look at Stantler and Bruxish. What even is the point of keeping them around?

Not every Pokemon has to evolve or be useful in battle. They can just be creatures, that's what makes them feel like Pokemon instead of just generic RPG monsters.
I think Stantler and Bruxish are cool.

I usually don't mind them as long as they have something that helps them stand out from the crowd. Bruxish for example has Psychic fangs and its ability blocks priority moves, so there's at least some reason to try and catch and use one over say, Slowpoke or Starmie.

Stantler, for comparison, doesn't have that much going on compared to a lot of normal types. It gets Hypnosis and Confuse Ray, but so does something like Watchhog. The end result is that both of them wind up as mediocre normal types with some status condition tricks.

I know what you mean, OP. But I wouldn't say I "hate" them. They're just not the mons I would care too much for to use UNLESS they were extremely charismatic. Scyther* and Heracross come to mind when I think of very charismatic pokemon that are one stage.

But then again, I'm not sure if I would ever use them in a solo campaign because I like the feeling of progression. And having a mon evolve makes me feel like progressing more than going up in levels does.

Yes. Yes it does. Imagine having chess pieces that aren’t just bad, they’re worthless. That’s what bad pokemon are like, you only get 6, and they’ll never make the cut.

this why having stuff like contests and the pokeathlon was a great idea. Delcatty was my go to for contests, but it didn't make the cut for my battling team. So in Ruby I had my battlers, then a separate batch of 5 or so contest pokemon. A for Pokeathlon events, even Sunkern of all things was given a new breath of life.

Why they do not have online contests in the new games is beyond me, they pushed Serena wanting to be a Performer so hard in the anime, but didn't even have a game equivalent?
